Ram Strike Error
You're probably thinking what is a ram strike coin error? That's an off-center planchet that is forced all the way into a collar that is frozen in the up position. The result is a vertical flange on the face struck by the hammer die and a rounded shoulder on the face struck by the anvil die. The pictures below what can result from a ram strike coin error. It is a 1999 cent that has the ram strike effect in it. You can see from the reverse the top lettering is off the planchet indicating that it is an off centered planchet and the lip you can see in the pictures is indicative of how it was forced in the collar in the up position extending the planchet lip up. Really neat error and very rare to come out of the mint. This piece pictured is property of ErrorsOnCoins.com and can be purchased. Contact staff for availability and price.
